Autumn Colors!

The time of colors!

It is mid October and the nature has started changing its shades. It is tempting me more and more to go around for clicks đŸ“·

This is also a time when we are no more blessed with the glory of 18 hr sunshine.

It is getting darker with each passing day. We feel so lucky when the sun is in a good mood and chooses to sneak out and make guest appearances.

Our heaters are up and running with temperature dropping day by day. Now, even going out on a roadside shop seems a special task with the compulsion of covering ourselves.

This season certainly comes with many changes but everything is accepted and worth against the beauty of the fall time!

Luxury of Bikes

How about living in a city that has clearly distinguished paths for cycle riders?

You go out and see that there are only two type of private vehicles on the road – cycles and cars! This is was really a unique thing for me. After looking at so many bikes all around the city, I was super excited to get one for myself from the very first day 🙂

Buying a brand new good quality bike is going to be an expensive affair if someone is starting life here from scratch. It is again a better idea to try hands on used bike to see what are your daily needs, before buying a new one.

Also, I found that the style and break operation were different from the one I used in India. Here it takes little efforts to get used to the coaster breaks (foot breaks).

vad ska vi Ă€ta?? Foodies Time

This time I will be writing the experiences related to my initial days in grocery shopping. This topic sounds strange, I know, but as this blog itself is ‘from an eye of an Indian Expat’; I have to write this to help some foodies like me 🙂
All the shops contains product details in Swedish only. Hence ,from my very first visit to the nearest ICA shop till today, guessing the product & google translation has been a continuous process. I was beaming with happiness when I saw full stack of nuts and chocolates being sold by weight. They were going to be my regular items in shopping list.
Lets go to the Vegetables. Well, the size of cabbage, cauliflowers and onions were just too big to be true. There were number of leafy vegetables and the only one I could make out was spinach 😛
Being a vegetarian in Sweden made me feel like an alien. That is the reason I was just getting happy to almost all basic vegetables available there.
Sweden is a paradise for those who love milk products. Like other countries, here also there are number of types for cheese in quite big packing in all the grocery stores. There are also many options of Yogurt in basic and flavored ones. The one thing I am missing here is Curd and I don’t think we can find it here anywhere. The Paneer/Cottage Cheese is also there known as ‘Keso’. There is a special product we tried named ‘Filmjölk’- a Nordic dairy product that goes well with muesli.
There has to be a special mention of a baking Swedish baking product called Kanelbullar, the cinnamon buns, they are must to try and super yummy!

Around the City

It is the time to just go out and see where I will be spending the coming years of my life. When I stepped out from the cozy apartment, the day was still bright. The sun was still shining up in the sky even at 6 pm and it felt as if the nature was just playing tricks with us.
The very first crossing seemed to be at the heart of the city, the ‘Times Square’ of  VĂ€strĂ„s. It is the First Hotel Plaza, the tallest building of this town.  The fountains at the square was making the scene livewhen everything around seemed so silent. After staying in a country with 1.2 billion people, this place was just too quite and too different.

Travelling to Sweden

Flying from India

It was the month of August and a very significant day for my homeland- 15th August, the Independence Day of India. Ironically we were getting “Independent” from our own country to travel, survive and hopefully thrive in the new terrine.
It was my very second international journey and so I was already excited to travel in Airbus a380!
OMG! what a gigantic it was! At 4 am, my sleepy eyes got wide open to see the engineering masterpiece! yeah.. too much exclamation  I know..but can’t help it.

The lavish journey of 14 hrs came to an end and there we were! I still remember that bright sunny day with the cold breeze, I was lucky to arrive at the best time in Sweden. The drive of Stockholm Airport to VÀsterÄs was the one I will remember for lifetime.

My very first glimpse of Scandinavia! The clear blue sky with soft cotton like clouds, those lush green fields, red and white country houses and the 18 hour shining sun. With my tired yet amazed eyes, I felt I went back to some Yash Chopra movie and the feeling was more sizzling with my sweetheart by my side, holding my hands lovingly.
